Nice Republicans Don’t Win

We keep winning elections and losing the culture.

Working in Republican politics has taught me that too often, we worry more about offending someone than standing firm in our convictions. I’ve seen firsthand how quickly the focus shifts from the policies that matter to the feelings they hurt, and the real issues get lost in the noise.

Winning elections means very little if we’re still letting the other side dictate what we’re allowed to say, believe, and fight for.

Here is the honest truth about the Republican Party: we talk a big game and then we go find our manners the moment it is time to actually do something. We win elections, we get the mandate, and then the left throws a fit and we slow down or back off completely. Then we sit around wondering why nothing changes.

Before I go further: nice and kind are not the same thing. Kind means you genuinely care about people. Nice means you care more about how you look than whether you actually get anything done. One is a value. The other is a performance. The goal is not to be rude. The goal is to stop letting the fear of being called rude paralyze us into doing nothing.
